We are Pirates! [Mar. 29th, 2005|08:07 pm]
[mood | excited]

I stood on the bow of the ship as it sliced through the ocean waters and enjoyed the feel of the wind and water hitting my face. I still felt a little nauseous and out of sorts though and was thankful that Ammut was letting me keep her arm for support. Pearl was feeling perfectly fine however and was agilely moving about the ship upon her impossibly high heeled boots. She had produced a spyglass and extending it out she peered at the fast approaching outline of the Jolly Roger on the horizon. “I can see people on deck,” said Pearl.

“Do you see the Captain?,” I asked, unable to keep the excitement from my voice. Pearl shot me a knowing look and chuckled.

“I can’t make out individuals just yet, too far away,” she said adjusting the glass slightly, “But I do believe they have spotted us, they are all of the sudden much more active. Shoot, I was hoping we could sneak up on them! Strike before they knew what hit them and plunder all their treasure!”

“Pearl!” I shouted astounded, “We can’t do that!”

“Can’t we?” said Pearl, “We are pirates after all, and this is a pirate ship, I thought you wanted to come to Neverland and have a little fun!”

“Piracy is not fun!” I lamented.

“Don’t be silly, of course it is,” said Pearl flippantly. “You just need some pirate clothes to get you in the mood. They will rue the day they crossed me, the dread Pirate Pearl!” She said, drawing her sword and jumping up to strike a pose on the deck railing. “Pirate Pearl and her great ship…the Black Pearl!

“The Nevertropolis,” interrupted Ammut who had remained silent all this time, quietly holding my arm.

“What?” said Pearl, letting her raised sword fall slightly.

“The Nevertropolis” repeated Ammut, “I’ve already named the ship, its called The Nevertropolis.”

“Oh, all right then, the dread ship, The Nevertropolis!” shouted Pearl looking over the horizon, sword raised high again. “And we have cannons, right?” Asked Pearl ducking down to Ammut’s ear.

“Of course. Several banks,” was Ammut’s reply.

“We’ll blow them to smithereens!” crowed Pearl.

“No!” I cried, “I don’t want to hurt anyone!”

“Oh, no one is going to get hurt silly-head,” said Pearl, but then she got an evil little glint in her eye, “but I’m going to cause some mayhem before this day is over. I’ll be taking Captain Hook’s hat as my prize!”

“No, no, don’t let her do this Ammut! I don’t want to hurt the Captain. Or anyone else!” I cried. Ammut just smiled at Pearl and shook her head.

To me she said, “There, there, dear, no use arguing with a mermaid now, it’s quite useless really. We’ve got some time, let’s get you some proper attire for our pirating adventure.”

I pouted. Looking down at my fluffy slippers though I agreed I needed a change and let Ammut lead me inside. We left Pearl strutting up and down the deck railing slicing her sword through the air and saying ‘Yar!’

“Just as long as I get spiky boots too,” I mumbled.

A Neverland Holiday [Mar. 27th, 2005|11:54 pm]
[mood | excited]

I was lying in the window seat of our flat, the fluffy feline Daedalus, sitting in my lap. As ran my fingers through his soft fur, I watched the sun set over the cityscape, light looking quite beautiful as it reflected off the towers of glass and steel. I had never before experienced a city such as this, I remember what awe I held upon first visiting Florence but it was nothing compared to the size and complexity of Nevertropolis. So many people, so many lives always buzzing, buzzing, buzzing. It never sleeps, even now as the sun sets, the buildings are lighting up like torches, lit from the inside, and vehicles, headlights blazing forward into the darkness, course through the streets in the veins of this city. I love the night here.

Ammut interrupted my reverie, appearing beside me without warning startling me slightly. I jerked and the cat upset, bolting from my lap and racing across the floor. “Are you ready to go,” Ammut asked me.

“Go?” I asked perplexed, “Outside?”

“No, to Neverland,” she replied.

“Now?” I asked, “But it’s so late…”

“Time means nothing,” she said taking my hand and pulling me from my seat, “Are you ready?”

“Sure,” I stuttered, I had been wanting to go visit so badly, “But how are we…”

“Yes, dear Ammut, how are we going to get there?” said Pearl who was now standing at Ammut’s side, dressed to go out from the looks of it. I myself was wearing a camisole top and a pair of sweat pants, in preparation for a quite evening with my cat and a book.

“I’m not really dressed to go out,” I complained.

“It doesn’t matter, follow me,” said Ammut and taking us both by the hand, led us to…her bedroom door.

“To your bedroom?” asked Pearl. Ammut just laughed and we followed her in.

Once in she spread her arms and said, “We’re here,” Pearl raised an eyebrow at me. I didn’t see Neverland but I did see that Ammut’s room was bigger than either of ours. Ammut continued, “It is here, I promise, now I know this is hard for you, I knew it would be, but trust me and listen, it is here, it was here all along. Let’s take each other’s hands. First you have to realize that there is no difference between here and there, then or now. I know what you are thinking, you can see the walls around you, you can look out the window and see the city, you can feel the floor beneath your feet but what you also have to realize is that yes you are here in this place but you are also many other places as well at the same time. Do you understand?”

I stared back with my brow knitted in confusion and shook my head no, Pearl with eyebrow still raised sighed in exasperation and said, “Really Ammut, you’re worse than a dolphin mystic, I’ve been listening to them spout that stuff for years and I still don’t understand…” but she fell silent all of a sudden and looked around as if with new eyes, Ammut smiled at her, “say that was pretty slick. I have to say I’m impressed,” said Pearl, she let our hands go and walked away, with her hand to her forehead, as if shielding her eyes from light. “This place is indeed beautiful.”

“What are you talking about,” I shouted, “I don’t see anything!”

“Of course you don’t dear, I didn’t really expect you to be able to do it on your own the first time, I’ve spent eons developing the spiritual maturity to be able to do it, even Pearl, who is ancient by many standards,” and she held up her hand to stall Pearl’s protest, “and by that I mean evolved in spirit only through many years of life, I know you are not ‘old’ Pearl,” then facing me again said, “Even Pearl would not have been able to do it without substantial guidance.”

“Do what?” I asked getting more frustrated and confused, “We are standing in your bedroom still!

“We are, that is true, but we are also standing in Neverland.” Said Ammut.

“I’m getting sick of this,” I said but Ammut silenced me, placing her finger on my forehead and sending light shooting through my eyes. It wasn’t painful. Just shocking, like my guts had been wrenched and I was overcome with vertigo and I had a strange sensation of movement and stillness all at once. I fell into her chest and when I could breath again she propped me up and smiled and I was standing on a wooden deck. A gull cried overhead, and a black pirate’s standard flapped in the breeze.

Pearl was laughing, “I guess those silly old dolphins know a thing or two after all don’t they,” she was saying. I leaned on Ammut for support and turned towards Pearl’s voice, she was standing on the same wooden deck, “Take it easy kid, say she’s going to be all right isn’t she Ammut?” Ammut nodded but kept her arm round me, I do believe I would have fallen over without it there. “Good. Say, like my new duds?” she asked, “it’s my new pirate outfit.” She twirled around, wearing a white shirt with flouncy sleeves, under a purple velvet corset with intricate gold embellishment and trim that pushed her breast up quite nicely and matched the purple velvet boots that came up to her thigh. “I’m most fond of the boots.”

“They are rather impractical though,” pointed out Ammut.

Pearl stuck her lip out in a pout, tottering on the impossibly high heels of her boots “Don’t be silly, they are fabulous, aren’t’ they Alice,” I nodded numbly still trying to take it all in. “See, they are fabulous. Absolutely fabulous, these babies were made for strutting and what’s more practical then a fabulous strut,” and she set off down the deck, moving with more elegance than the best runway model, her hips swaying jauntily to and fro. She struck a pose to an imaginary audience and strutted back again with a mock serious look on her face cracking up into giggles at the end. I was laughing too.

“Yar, I’m a pirate!” bellowed Pearl, “And I get a sword too,” she said discovering the things strapped to her belt for the first time.

Ammut was dressed in piratey attire as well, I noticed for the first time. I looked down at my own clothes and frowned when I saw I was still wearing my PJs. “We’ll get you something shortly,” Ammut assured me.

“Are we on the Jolly Roger?” I asked.

“No,” said Ammut, “this is our own ship, that,” and I followed her outstretched arm,” is the Jolly Roger,” and there it was, the great wooden pirate ship of Captain James Hook anchored in the cove, it’s elaborate aft section rising high above the sea’s surface their own ship sailing towards it, great white sails billowing in the breeze.

I giggled. Ammut smiled. Pearl said “yar” again.

Good news, Pearl has forgiven me. We are friends again and I am so glad because she really is my bestest friend next to Tigerlily, and Tigerlily is in Neverland so I don’t get to see her much anymore. That got me thinking about all the things that I miss, Pearl must miss things too, and being that she’s a mermaid, she must miss her ocean home. I can’t take her there but I could do the next best thing.

I made her a saltwater bath. I thought she might just think I was silly but then she started crying and hugged me and called me her sweet little girl. So she loved it and we are friends again.

I feel sorry that she can’t get to be her real mermaid self more often though and actually go swimming in the ocean. As much as she loves shopping, and fashion, and dinner out on the town, I know she’d like to visit the ocean more often. And I wish I could visit the Indians and Neverland again. And I’d like to see the Lost Boys and Peter. And Captain Hook. When I mentioned it to Ammut, she smiled funny like, Ammut never says too much and her day to day activities are still a mystery to me. But anyways, when I said I wanted to go to Neverland she smiled gently, “But you are there child,” she said

“I’m pretty sure I’m not though,” I replied, “We all live in The Nevertropolis.”

“We are in both places child, The Nevertropolis, Neverland, and many other places too. We exist in all those realities,” was her perplexing reply.

I hate it when she says weird stuff like that, it just confuses me. Great Big Little Panther was always saying stuff like that too. In fact she is very much like him. So I just sat there looking confused I’m sure. She smiled at me, kissed me on the forehead and said, “Nevermind, I’m sure it makes no sense to you.” I nodded. “I’ll see what I can do okay?”

I hugged her and she patted my head. Ammut is always so nice to me. And now maybe Pearl can have a real swim!

I said something I should have not and Pearl is mad at me now. I am so sorry for the words I spoke but it is too late, the damage has been done and I don’t know if Pearl will ever forgive me. How could I have been so mean natured? Pearl was only trying to help me.

People assume my mermaid’s vanity and naturally exuberant personality make me impervious to insult, that I can withstand any cruelty and come out on top but I’ve got my weaknesses and I can be hurt too. I know I put on the façade of complete self confidence but I’ve got feelings too.

I just never saw it coming. How could Alice do that to me?

[mood | contemplative]

It has been one of my life long tendencies to observe and record thus it is only natural I should undertake that role for our community of three. I am Pearl. I live here in the center of this great human city in this stylish and chic flat for which I have great appreciation being that I am only a mermaid and unable to suppress all of my materialistic tendencies. Fashion is so very important to me. I love shoes. And Gucci.

And my “sisters”, let me not forget them. There is sweet Alice. Even here in this harsh 21st century she retains so much if her innocence, she knows the city well now, loves the museums and her paintings and all can’t help but be affected by her innocent charm. The delicate little thing that moves with such grace, she remains so unaware of the lust she engenders in men with her simple femininity. We try to protect her and shield even though we know she is perfectly capable of protecting herself if need be. I would like to keep her innocent if I could. The beast is always lurking and I fear it could shatter her. Ammut loves her so dearly too and unlike myself, she has no fear of the girl’s inner demon, she tells Alice to let it give her strength and when it becomes to strong for her Ammut is there to wrest her back to herself, as she is probably the only being strong enough to do so. No if Ammut were not here, I would greatly fear dear Alice.

More of Ammut, our unspoken leader. She’s has the hardest time of all of us, blending in. Not even I, with my bizarrely hued skin and hair, attract so much attention as our dear Ammut. There is something not quite right about her. When she moves through a room people are affected, they look at her, and they are disturbed by what they perceive. What they see is a tall dark skinned woman with piercing black eyes but what they sense is something unnatural, not quite human with a presence too large to be contained in the mere flesh of a human female. Ammut is a goddess, a powerful preternatural being and she has to be so careful all the time not to betray her nature to the mortals around us.

Of Alice again, we are consummate shopping buddies, the girl does have a flair for fashion with her natural artistic sense. I dress to impress, she dresses to express some higher design sensitivity. And Ammut, well she does her best NOT to glow, to suppress that inner energy that if let unleashed would scorch those she tries to live among. But she can never suppress completely and even that small amount that remains unbridled is enough to make her more deeply gorgeous then can be understood. I have style, Alice has innocence, Ammut has unadulterated power.

Well that is us in a nutshell. We love our city life, it brings excitement every day. And when we first came to live together we viewed each other with suspicion but now we thrive in sisterhood. The dreams of the other are as important as our own to each of us.

Introductions [Mar. 4th, 2005|01:08 am]
[mood | cramped]

So here we all are, “The Hook Girls” as our illustrious creator has named us, characters she created to pursue/seduce/and sometimes maim, the famous gentleman pirate, Captain Hook. And she thought it would be a swell idea to see how well we all got along. So were are moving in together, a nice flat in some metropolis, “Real World” style. We personally think this is going to be a disaster but she is quite excited about it so we will play along. Allow us to introduce ourselves in turn:

Ammut: Ammut is based off the ancient Egyptian demoness of the same name whose purpose it was to devour the souls of sinful hearts. Anubis weighed the hearts against the feather of truth and those found heavy with sin were fed to Ammut. She was the bringer of the final death, the death of the soul. With the head of a crocodile, the forequarters of a leopard and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus, she embodied the most dangerous creatures known to the ancient Egyptians. The crocodile who ate the hand of Captain Hook is in fact this ancient Egyptian diety and Ammut is hungry for more.

Pearl: The next to be created. Pearl is a cold water mermaid who left Neverland years ago to pursue her interest in recording and translating Whale Song. She is a bit of a pariah in Mer-Society for this life path but Pearl is not a typical bubble-head mermaid. She likes to use her brain. Still, she is a mermaid at heart and thus loves pretty things, delights in making mischief, and excels at stirring up trouble. Since Peter Pan has forbidden the drowning of any of the pirates, Pearl makes do with merely pestering and annoying them. Her favorite target? Captain Hook of course. In fact she is really rather fond of him and doesn't even want to drown him most of the time.
Pearl has a dirty little family secret to guard. She has the ability to conjure legs at will, a throw back trait considered an abomination in modern Mer-Society.

Alice: Last but not least. Alice is a girl-woman. Young and innocent and unaware of her curvaceous feminine attributes. She’s a good little girl. And she’s also a werewolf. Ferocious man devourer or gentle beast no one really knows.
